Create a Welcoming Theme
The most memorable Airbnb stays have a clear personality, sense of place and story. If you don't yet have a theme, start with your Airbnb's unique features and the details guests talk about, like close cafés, or birdlife... You can also create a story around your passion, like gardening, surfing or vintage treasures? Always consider the main guest groups your air bnb will attract.
We chose the name Sailor's Rest for our lakeside retreat because, well, everyone loves a nautical theme, and our research showed that boating enthusiasts liked the area but wanted more off-road parking, which we could provide. This also helps focus your marketing direction. In our case, Sydney boaties.

Colour & Decor
Start with a white canvas. Most successful Airbnb interiors begin with a simple, neutral base of whites, natural textures and classic furniture designs that photograph well.

Build a story, not a collection. Whether it's a sailor's cottage, an artist's retreat or a garden hideaway, your theme should guide your colours, artwork and décor choices. A few carefully chosen pieces create far more impact than filling a room with matching motifs.

Need inspiration? Try searching your theme on Pinterest, Etsy or a homewares website. A search for "coastal cottage", "artist's retreat" will quickly reveal colours, artwork, furnishings. Or try AI like we did in this Image.

Our Sailor's Choice example uses coastal colours, a boat painting and nautical touches like ropes and sisal, a set of oars in the corner and an anchor motif on one pillow. The theme is clear without overwhelming the space.

Names & Stories
A welcoming name and simple image can help create identity.
Steer away from generic words and focus on what makes your place distinctive — location, outlook, character, or a small detail guests remember. Easy to create with a designer or AI.

Guest Cards
Personalized cards are useful for local cafés, tourist centres, or as a small takeaway for guests.
They can be produced simply and affordably, even in small runs. We like using Canva or Vista Print for this.​
Distinctive Touches
Once you have a strong image and name you can use it for the house manual, signs - even towels and takeaway notepads to jog memories. Use the logo atop the house manual and signs. Check Canva or Vistaprint for ideas but try get it made locally.
